I'm Dr. Merissa Ferrara Elisei, and I'm that professor, career coach, and leadership coach who actually gets it. For more than 20 years, I've been teaching and researching interpersonal and relational communication at The College of Charleston. I've had the privilege of mentoring thousands of students through all those messy, exciting, sometimes terrifying transitions — college, first jobs, figuring out what you actually want to do with your life.

My approach is influenced by Meg Jay and Brené Brown — two legends who understand that how we communicate, connect, and show up literally shapes everything. My coaching is designed for two primary groups: college students and recent graduates navigating career transitions (interviews, first jobs, leadership roles), and mid-career professionals who want to level up their communication, leadership, and relationship skills. If you're someone who knows you're capable but struggles to communicate your worth authentically, we're a great fit.
In our 60-minute session, we start by identifying your core communication challenge — whether that's interview anxiety, leadership presence, difficult conversations, or relationship dynamics. Then we deconstruct what's not working and build a personalized action plan with specific scripts, frameworks, and techniques you can use immediately. You'll receive a recording of our session and a written follow-up plan.
Absolutely. Most of my coaching happens via Zoom, which works beautifully for communication coaching. I also offer in-person sessions in Charleston, SC for local clients. Virtual sessions are just as effective — the skills we work on translate perfectly to video calls, which is increasingly where professional communication happens anyway.
The 4Ward Certified Executive Coaching program is a comprehensive training for professionals who want to become certified executive coaches themselves. You'll learn my research-backed coaching methodology, workshop facilitation skills, and receive ongoing mentorship. Upon completion, you earn the 4Ward Certified credential and gain access to our client referral network. This is ideal for HR professionals, consultants, and leaders who want to add coaching to their toolkit.
I understand that life happens. You can reschedule or cancel a session with 24 hours' notice at no charge. Cancellations within 24 hours may be subject to a 50% fee. For the certification program, we'll discuss the full terms during your consultation call.
